Award-Winning Performer Billy Buchanan to Present Classic Motown Melodies and More at UF

Written by on October 4, 2019

If you love Motown and R&B, you’ll want to catch Billy Buchanan’s “Pioneers of Rock-n-Soul” show at University of Findlay. The show will be held at Winebrenner Building’s TLB Auditorium on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 each at the door.

Buchanan’s nonstop, no-holds-barred performance, which will include a live band, channels soul greats such as Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and other icons.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, the city where D.J. Alan Freed first coined the phrase “rock and roll,” Buchanan has a deep musical heritage. His father’s LP’s inspired and drew him toward soul, blues, and rock trailblazers.

Along with his jaw-dropping homages to the classics, he is an award-winning songwriter whose original music contains backbeat rhythms and musical influences of all the artists he admires. Buchanan’s much-anticipated EP, “ShagShuffleShimmyShakeSwing Vol. 1” and his Christmas LP, “Give Love,” were both released in 2018. In total, he has released seven albums as a solo artist and two albums with his former band Fusebox (Elevate/EMI). He’s had three Top 20 songs on the CCM charts and has performed in all 50 states and in 26 countries. He has written songs with Busbee, Clint Lagerberg, Mike Hartnett, Marc Byrd, and other established writers.

Buchanan has opened for or shared the stage with Jersey Boys on Tour, Tower of Power, Harry Connick Jr., Betty LaVette, Paul Anka, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Josh Turner, Chaka Khan, and others.

Also, as a sideman, he’s played bass, guitar, or sang background vocals for many great artists, including Grammy winners Rebecca St. James, Michael Tait, and John Carter Cash.

“Buchanan has a soulful sound influenced by Otis Redding, Prince, Seal, John Mayer, and Stevie Wonder,” wrote the Florida Times Union.
