Appeals Court Upholds Conviction of Gerrick Sheldon on Numerous Charges

In May of 2018, Gerrick “Tony” Sheldon was sentenced in Hardin County Common Pleas Court to a total of 19 and half years in prison on 2 counts of complicity in an attempt to commit aggravated murder and one count each of complicity in an attempt to commit aggravated arson, complicity to unlawful possession of a dangerous ordnance, complicity to violate a protection order and endangering children.
Sheldon appealed citing insufficient evidence was presented by the prosecution to support findings of guilt.
However, the Third District Court of Appeals ruled that a rational trier of fact could have found that Sheldon engaged in conduct that, if successful, would constitute or result in aggravated murder.
For that reason, the Court found that Sheldon’s complicity-to-attempted aggravated-murder convictions are based on sufficient evidence and affirmed the judgement of the trial court.
The case dates back to August of 2017 when Sheldon approached his son to start a fire in a house that was occupied by his estranged wife while she and her son were inside.
