Ada Cub Scout Pack Holds Blue and Gold Banquet

Written by on February 6, 2020

On the eve of the Boys Scouts of America’s 110th birthday (February 8, 2020), Ada Cub Scout Pack 124 held its annual Blue and Gold Banquet on Tuesday, February 4, 2020.

19 Cub Scouts plus over 60 family members and guests attended a fun filled event including a carry-in dinner, Scouting presentations, awards, and a baked goods auction.

Black Swamp Area Council, Great Oaks District Training Chairman; Will Brown gave a moving Friends of Scouting presentation offering families the opportunity to support the annual giving campaign. FOS pledged donations assist local Councils by providing behind the scenes funding for camp scholarships, volunteer training, camp promotion, reference publications, staff development, etc.

Bear Den Leader and STEM Nova Counselor; Amy Stockert gave a spirited presentation on High Adventure Bases including Florida Sea Base, Northern Tier High Adventure Base, Summit Bechtel Reserve, and the Philmont Scout Ranch. These bases offer youth programs for Scouts to experience inspiring character development opportunities and expand their values-based leadership training.

Cubmaster Jerry Haudenschield informed families about upcoming events including the STEM Camp to be held at Camp Berry in February and the local Pack Pinewood Derby in March. He also recognized Scouts for popcorn sales, STEM Nova awards, achievement awards, and rank advancement. Six Scouts were presented with the Arrow Of Light award, the highest rank in Cub Scouts. The Arrow of Light recognizes Scouts who have fully completed their Webelos rank requirements and are prepared to become Boy Scouts.
Scouts receiving their AOL award were: Timothy Chrissobolis, Owen Haudenschield, Chase Jarrett, Dylan Marshall, Isaiah Poland, and Joshua Scott.

A crossover ceremony will be held for the AOL Scouts in June 2020 when Scoutmaster; Don Spar will welcome any Scouts who wish to crossover into the Ada Boy Scout Troop 124 to continue their Scouting adventures.

The evening concluded with a baked goods auction where Scouts were asked to bring a decorated baked good to be auctioned off for a Pack fundraiser competing for the Most Creative Cub Scout Theme category. Joshua Scott was deemed the victor with his Eagle rank inspired cake with the words of the Scout Law positioned throughout.

The Scouts were the only bidding participants allowed for the auction and it was very entertaining to watch them bid with excitement and content when they were presented with their recently purchased baked goods. A BIG Thank You goes out to our guest auctioneering services offered by Jan and Cindy Layman from Layman Farms, LLP in Kenton.

Cubmaster; Haudenschield offered closing remarks and thanked all of the families for sharing their enthusiasm and continued support of the Scouting program. Our Scouts today are the future leaders of tomorrow… we’re in good shape.
