A Year After it was Lost, a Custom Walking Cane Returned to Owner

Written by on January 3, 2020

A custom made walking cane that was lost in December of 2018 has been returned one year later to its owner in Findlay.

Weldon Olson, who is now 87 years old, told Findlay police officers that he accidently left his cane in a shopping cart while he was at Lowe’s on Bright Road.

Olson was on the US Olympic Men’s Hockey Team that won a silver medal in 1956 and a gold medal in 1960. The cane is made from a hockey stick and has his name “Olson” printed on it as well as the dates “1956-1960”.

It was a gift from his son.

This past December 23, 2019, an alert citizen observed the missing cane in a vehicle parked at Walmart on Tiffin Avenue and notified police.

Officers spoke with the owner of the vehicle and notified Olson, who responded to the scene and verified it was the cane from his case.

The cane was returned to the owner, and no charges are being pursued at this time at the request of the victim.
